A Guide for Support Workers

This guide was written for support workers by the Belonging Matters Advisory Council (BMAC) and Belonging Matters and is based on the actual experiences of people with intellectual disability and autism.

The guide covers how a support worker can provide good support and talks about:

• participating and being included in community places

• the role of a support worker

• getting to know the person you are supporting well and treating them as an individual

• good support

• communication; and

• supported decision making.
